They say pictures are worth a few words, here's what they've scanned and sent me (Darrel Toepfer) so far, I've placed them on a website for all to see. Just click the BACK button on your browser, to return to this page, from any photo or link you activate:
While Jock and Jan were here in Louisiana, they rented this giant Dodge Ram pickup truck and got its V8 engine at no extra charge. Good thing it came with unlimited mileage and gas averaged $1.45 a gallon. They put 1,225 miles on it, while they were here, thats nearly 2000 kilometers! our_mean_machine.jpg - 37k
Their first full day here, they visited The Liberty Theater.
That Saturday night they saw Les Jeunes Cajuns (the band consists of 3
generations with the grandfather on fiddle, father on drums and the bands
leader - the son, on vocals and accordion) and
J.C. Carrier and Hot Step, a father and son band, all perform live.

A trip to cajun land has to include a Saturday morning at Fred's
Lounge in Mamou, we look like its 8am, especially after being out till
2am, at the Quarter Pole in Rayne. From the left: Jock, myself and Jan.

Arrangements were made for Jock and Jan to be interviewed on our
local 25kw FM radio station KBON 101.1 FM
Here is a picture of Jock during the interview with Paul Marx, the station
owner and general manager.

This is a picture of the KBON "Wall of Fame" looking towards the
front of the station. The last door on the right is the on-air studio
where the interview above took place. The door just before, is the
production studio where we made the recording above. Keep in mind that
the artist pictures and of course their signatures, are only from those
performers who have visited KBON. Those that have died since placing
their mark, have a small cross next to it.

Jan and Jock wanted to tour the visit our prisons and jails. They got
to see the campus and a rodeo at Angola, as well as tour one of the
federal pens in Oakdale. They also got to tour the Eunice Police
Department and our local jail.

After the boiled
crawfish, bbq'd pork ribs and deep fried turkey (burp!) from the
left: JoJo Reed, my daughter Sara, Jock, John, Adam, my dad, me, Matt
Fruge, my other neighbor Mike Fruge (he supplied the crawfish) and Scott
Eckholdt.

Before the music got started, all the cooking took place out on
my back patio. Jock and Jan arrived too late to film it all happening
and this was taken just before we sat down to eat and suck some
boiled crawfish heads.

really liked dancing to the music.

that it was over 45 years old and hadn't needed the reeds replaced.

Invited to the jam session I hosted, but unable to attend, were
members of the following bands:
From Eunice, The New Ossun Express
Also from Eunice, Kenneth Thibodeaux
From Kaplan, Richard LeBouef. He
also has a vanity website, here.
Yeah I know, might as well have invited The Rolling Stones or even
Elvis, but these guys promised me they were coming. It was a scheduling
conflict for John Best and Big Paul Delaphosse of the New Ossun Express,
they were booked that night for the opening of Festival International de Louisiane,
in Lafayette. Kenneth Thibodeaux had back to back, callouts to Opelousas
for Charter Cable, who he works for. Richard LeBouef had something going
on at the hospital, according to his dad Calvin, who he was supposed to
bring along. My wife Jennifer, Luke and I got to hear Horace Trahan and
the New Ossun Express, as well as Kenneth Thibodeaux and Cajun Dance,
perform this past Saturday (May 19th) at the Liberty Theater.
Jan said he wanted to see alligators and Jock thought they were a
tourism myth, much like his birthlands infamous, Nessie of the Loch.
This was taken over at the Jennings tourist center. There were at least
4 big ones in the pool, as well as a giant snapping turtle. There were
also lots of babies, including one you could hold.

This was taken just after Larry Miller
(Bon Cajun Instruments)
had left (Jock liked his sound the best of the cajun handbuilts he got
to sample), my father's dog had cornered this King snake, Jan and Jock
couldn't get over me picking it up, its a King snake for cripe's sake.
It was released unharmed to continue its good works (it eats other
snakes). Trying to explain this to dutchlanders is nearly impossible.

Jan drove Jock around to all the destinations, with my quidance
for the most part. They got to visit another single row diatonic,
traditional cajun accordion factory, this one in Maxie,
Mouton's Music Store.
Here is a shot of Jock with one of his bigger models.

Before they came over to Eunice, Jock and Jan spent a few days in New Orleans. This previous picture if from the World Trade Center looking back down Canal Street. The green roofed building is Harrah's Casino and the Mississippi river is directly behind the WTC. Here's what he sent me from there: "These pictures were taken at Wordy Jane's house in New Orleans. The dark haired guy is Glenn Pearl. He is a harmonica and conga player with the band "Sweet Pea's Revenge". The other guy on bass is Mikey from NONG newsgroup. The guy on his own is Oloruin from NONG. And a bunch of stray kids we adopted as well. Jock"
After they left Eunice, they visited the Destrehan Manor House
with Regina and her husband. It is a plantation home
built in the late 1700's. I'm guessing, but over on the right out in the yard,
that is either Ronald chasing a squirrel, or Smoke'n Dave
just being obnoxious. The area has many old oaks trees
such as the one pictured.
Here's our email addresses if you need to contact us: Jan, Jock, Darrel

And here's one that Jock really likes, the front page currently
sports one of the photos above from Wordy's jam session and includes
the links to the KBON interview:
http://www.harmonicahoek.nl
The magazine, Het Harmonica Hoek, which translated from Dutch
means, The Diatonic Accordion Corner, in English. The Dutch word for the
diatonic variety of the accordion is Trekharmonica. Directly translated
that is, Pulling Harmonica, according to Jock.
