12/7/99 BBS.WHODAT.NET is back online as of midnight after I abandoned trying to recover the data that was on a slave disk. Mail appears to be processing okay, but I've still got a few bugs in some of the mailing lists. All stored mail was lost, please contact those on your frequent message lists and ask them to resend anything they might have sent you Sunday or since the last time you successfully downloaded content. Sorry for the inconvience and the lengthy time the system was down. I took the opportunity to nearly double the processor speed and did some other system enhancements as well.
It's 3:15pm 12/6/99 and I'm about to abandon all hope of recovering the data. The recovery software is still running but the drive is getting louder and louder, obviously there was a physical problem or damage, inside of the drive and it isn't the bearings. For those that need to do mail now, contact me about setting up a username@whodat.net account or patiently await the construction of the replacement username@bbs.whodat.net machine. Thanks...
12/5/99 BBS.WHODAT.NET is down and I'm currently attempting to recover the data that was on a slave disk. I discovered a read/write error around 10:30pm and I can give no timetable at present as to when it will be back up and running. Please check back here for updates.
All incoming mail will be held offsite for a period of time, however if we are offline for too long the mail may be bounced to the sender. Currently no outgoing mail can be processed through this domain name, if I see that it will be down for an excessive amount of time I will setup a backup machine. If I cannot recover the drive, all stored mail will be lost.

Actually the outage was detected at 6pm CDT on Wednesday and lasted through noon on Thursday. During this digital service downtime, I rerouted all outbound traffic through Virginia on an analog circuit. All incoming traffic was disabled and all outside-incoming mail spooled. All local incoming mail was routed immediately and transmitted.
Additionally there was a fiber cut on the east coast that effected traffic earlier in the day, between noon at 4pm CDT on September 29th, 1999, until traffic was rerouted automatically by PSInet.

BellSouth determined that its due to the road construction along LSUE Drive and was cut at the Maple Ave. junction.
Due to the nature of the phone circuit damage, the 600 pair cable was damaged but not severed, they replaced the cable on Wednesday, May 20th. However, they miss wired another line and BellSouth was notified that evening. Service was completely restored to all lines by Thursday afternoon, May 21st.
